Gartner Inc.: Alcatel-Lucent Magic Quadrant Visionary

At a glance:

  • For the second year in a row, the Alcatel-Lucent Enterprise Network portfolio evaluated as a Visionary in latest Gartner Magic Quadrant (MQ) for the Wired and Wireless LAN Access Infrastructure
  • Visionaries demonstrate an ability to increase features in its offering to provide a unique and differentiated approach to the market
  • Vendors must have an end-to-end hardware solution, but increasingly, vendor differentiation is focused on network services, including guest access, onboarding, security and management tools

On September 3, 2013 Gartner, Inc. released its latest Magic Quadrant on networking markets titled “Magic Quadrant for the Wired and Wireless Access LAN Infrastructure,” authored by Tim Zimmerman and Mark Fabbi. Alcatel-Lucent Enterprise was placed in the Visionaries quadrant of this report.

This is the second year Gartner has released the “Magic Quadrant for Wired and Wireless LAN Access Infrastructure” report and the second time that Alcatel-Lucent placed as Visionary. To be included vendors must supply both Wired and Wireless LAN equipment to Enterprises with specific product specifications and revenue minimums. Not all vendors in the Wired or Wireless LAN market met these requirements for inclusion.

As stated in the report, “A vendor in the Visionaries quadrant has demonstrated the ability to increase features in its offering to provide a unique and differentiated approach to the market. A Visionary will have innovated in one or more key area of access layer technologies (e.g., convergence, security, management or operational efficiency). The ability to apply differentiating functionality across the entire access layer will affect their position.”
