We all care about the sacrifices the military makes every day, and this year, here at Tech II, we decided to search for a local organization that was actively involved in caring for our troops. We discovered Operation Adopt-A-Soldier, which, as luck would have it, was only a few minutes away from our office. We met Cliff Sequin and Bruce Duxbury at their headquarters located at 891 Saratoga Road in Gansevoort, NY. It’s a temporary headquarters, as their original location burned down last year.

Cliff and Bruce love their work, which was obvious at first sight, with their smiling eyes beaming over their masks. They had just sent out over 300 care packages that day alone!

Their story began when Cliff and his wife started sending cookies to their son in the 368th Combat Engineers division in Iraq. Soon, word got out, and many more requests came pouring in. Everyone wanted a box, so that they, too, could contribute to their cause, and with the increased demand, Cliff decided to take action. In 2003, Operation Adopt a Solider was created.

Now, the organization serves over 650 troops annually. This year, due to the pandemic, donations are down, and volunteers are scarce. Even with this latest obstacle, their passion and resourcefulness never wavers, and they continue to get the job done, but they do need our help.

Who is Adopt a Solider? OAAS is a volunteer program whose mission is to raise awareness about the daily sacrifices that the men and women stationed overseas (as well as their families) make in order to preserve freedom for the rest of us. The main goal is to provide a sense of home to our soldiers by providing care packages, gifts, letters, phone card, and much more. Their motto is clear and simple, “You will never be forgotten.”

With a strong need for supplies, we decided to set up a donation box to fill with food and supplies, and we encourage you all to do the same. You can set up a box at your company or pass on the good word. If you have any questions, please contact Cliff Sequin by phone (518) 260-9922, or email OperationAdoptASoliderinc@gmail.com.

There is a need for volunteers, as well, but a simple donation would be greatly appreciated.

Tech II thanks Operation Adopt A Solider for their generosity, dedication, and passion for their work and are proud to be a part of their mission.

For a full list of the items that they need the most, please click the link below. If you fill up a box, feel free to drop it off to Tech II, and we’ll get it to their headquarters for you. It’s possible we may even be able to pick up your filled donation box, if you need us to. Just reach out to us, and we’ll see what we can do!

Items Needed for Our Troops

“On behalf of the USO in Kaiserslautern, thank you SOOOO MUCH for the care packages! They’ve been amazing – soldiers now have snacks, soups and all kinds of great stuff to nosh on during their 2 weeks in quarantine here.

Indeed, the Army does take care of soldiers, but it’s a long time between dinner ‪at 5 pm‬ and breakfast ‪at 8 am‬ – so your package is a sight for sore eyes, I can assure you.

As always, what would we do without you —
Take care, and blessings to you and yours”
